Liposuction Eugene

Get the slimmer, more elegant shape you desire

Unflattering, diet- and exercise-resistant pockets of fat can be extremely frustrating for those of us who work hard to look our best. If your healthy lifestyle doesn’t seem to be enough to get rid of unwanted fat, liposuction can help.

By selectively removing excess, stubborn fat, Dr. Movassaghi uses liposuction to help women in Eugene achieve long-lasting improvements to their shape and renew their confidence when they look in the mirror.

Why should I consider liposuction?

If you are bothered by stubborn fat in specific areas of your body, despite diet and exercise, liposuction can likely help you see the improvements you desire. Liposuction may also be desirable if you wish to change the contours of your body. For example, if you feel your hips and buttocks are disproportionately large compared to your upper body, an experienced plastic surgeon can actually reshape the area to achieve more balanced, aesthetically-pleasing curves.

“I love my new look. I feel so much more confident, and shopping for new clothes has been a sheer delight!!!”

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

While you will experience the best results if you are at or near your ideal body weight, improved techniques in liposuction now allow larger amounts of fat removal, so liposuction can be useful to heavier persons as well.

Since liposuction specifically targets fat, patients with good skin tone will see the best results, as the skin will contract smoothly to the new, slimmer contours. Those with stretched or sagging skin on the body will likely be happier with other body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck, mommy makeoverarm lift, or Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

Where can I have liposuction performed?

In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, liposuction can be performed safely and effectively nearly anywhere on the body. By tailoring the instruments and his techniques, Dr. Movassaghi can beautifully reshape very small areas, such as the armpits, or sculpt a seamless new contour to a broader portion of the body, such as the waist, hips, and buttocks. Common areas where our patients choose to have liposuction include:

  • Beneath the chin (a “double chin”)
  • Upper arms and armpits
  • Male chest for gynecomastia treatment
  • Trunk, abdomen, and waist
  • Hips and thighs
  • Inner knees, calves, and ankles

Liposuction is an extremely versatile procedure, and it is commonly used to enhance the results of other breast and body procedures. For men bothered by gynecomastia, liposuction for men can often sculpt a firmer, more masculine chest. Dr. Movassaghi frequently uses liposuction in conjunction with tummy tuck surgery to sculpt an improved contour to the hips and waist that looks natural with the flatter, firmer tummy. Additional procedures that may enhance the result of liposuction include breast reduction and thigh/buttock lift.

How does liposuction work?

Dr. Movassaghi performs liposuction on an outpatient basis at McKenzie Surgery Center or Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. General anesthesia is usually used for safety and comfort. Small suction tubes called cannulas are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits to remove unwanted fat.

What is recovery from liposuction like?

You will go home wearing a compression garment (or tape) covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling after liposuction. Most patients experience little discomfort during recovery, saying that they feel more soreness than pain for the first few days, akin to how you feel after a hard workout. Initial discomfort is easily quelled with oral medication. Mild to moderate swelling and minor bruising are common and usually subside in 2 to 4 weeks. The final results take shape in about 2 to 3 months.

Is liposuction still effective?

With so many new and promising non-surgical treatments to spot-reduce fat available, you may wonder why anyone might still choose liposuction. We offer alternative non-surgical fat reduction options—such as CoolSculpting—and our patients have so far been thrilled with the results of these procedures. That said, neither can be considered a substitute for liposuction in every patient.

Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting

Both liposuction and CoolSculpting are excellent fat reduction options, but for different types of patients. Liposuction is typically the best option for patients who have larger amounts of fat they wish to remove, would like to address multiple areas of fat, or desire more extensive reshaping in an area.

Typically, CoolSculpting is better suited to patients who are generally happy with their shape, but who would like to noticeably reduce fatty bulges on the belly, hips, or thighs. CoolSculpting cannot be used on the face or neck. For the right patient, CoolSculpting can be a cost-effective way to lose fat without downtime.
