Male Tummy Tuck Eugene

Tone muscle & tighten loose skin on your stomach

Having firm, flat abs doesn’t just look good—it can help a man feel more comfortable and confident in his appearance, leaving him to concentrate on what’s really important. Abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck surgery, can help correct a protruding or sagging belly for a firmer, slimmer abdominal contour. You likely already have a strong core underneath your stubborn belly fat and skin, and a tummy tuck can bring it out.

Why consider a male tummy tuck?

Getting plenty of exercise is important, but for some men, no amount of training seems to be enough to achieve the abdominal shape they desire. Due to aging, genetics, or significant weight loss, many men have a round, protruding belly or sagging skin that hangs loosely over their belts. While diet and exercise can help strengthen muscle and reduce fat around the belly, neither can do much to improve over-stretched muscles or excess skin.

“Thank you so much for your professionalism & skill. I love my new body! I would not hesitate in recommending you for a doctor. Your staff is wonderful and very friendly!”

Dr. Movassaghi performs abdominoplasty to specifically address such issues by removing excess skin, tightening the muscles, and restoring a natural contour to the abdominal area, improving the shape of the torso. Tummy tuck surgery offers a number of benefits that our male patients particularly appreciate:

  • Clothing fits better, enhancing comfort & professional appearance
  • Achieving a slimmer torso helps the entire body look younger & fitter
  • Confidence can improve, along with a motivation to eat well & exercise
  • Results last for many years so long as you maintain your weight

Am I a good candidate for abdominoplasty?

While some fat is removed during abdominoplasty, men who exhibit skin laxity and stretched abdominal musculature will experience the most satisfying results with abdominoplasty. If excess fat is your primary concern, but you have good skin and muscle tone, liposuction or CoolSculpting may be a more suitable option.

Abdominoplasty can achieve dramatic improvements in a man’s body contour, but it is one of the more involved plastic surgery procedures. For a safe, successful procedure and optimal results, the following are especially important:

  • You are a non-smoker in good general health
  • You are at a healthy, stable body weight
  • You are able to take several weeks off to recover

How is male tummy tuck surgery performed?

Dr. Movassaghi performs male tummy tuck surgery at McKenzie Surgery Center or Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon, typically as an outpatient procedure. General anesthesia, provided by a board certified anesthesiologist, is used during the procedure. Through a horizontal incision, made just above the pubic bone, Dr. Movassaghi will remove excess skin and tighten lax abdominal muscles, securing them into a more aesthetically pleasing shape using sutures in the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding the muscles).

Depending on a patient’s needs, he may make an additional incision around the navel and/or reposition the belly button to ensure a natural look after surgery. Dr. Movassaghi may also perform liposuction of the flanks and abdomen to remove excess fat and sculpt the most aesthetically pleasing, natural shape to the area.

High lateral tension tummy tuck surgery for men

A high lateral tension tummy tuck can provide tighter and more contoured results than a traditional tummy tuck. In addition to a normal tummy tuck, a high lateral tension tummy tuck also targets skin below the chest and on the upper thighs and can reposition the opening of the naval. Unlike a traditional tummy tuck, Dr. Movassaghi tightens skin and muscle horizontally and vertically on the abdomen to tighten the waist and achieve a slimmer midsection. The incision for a high lateral tension tummy tuck is made very low on the abdomen (just above the pubic bone), making the scar invisible even when wearing a swimsuit.

High lateral tension tummy tuck for men is a rare procedure, but board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Movassaghi offers it at his Eugene practice. Contact us to learn more about this procedure.

What is recovery from abdominoplasty like?

Following surgery, you will go home wearing a bandage and a compression garment. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you may require drains for the first week or two after your procedure to help alleviate fluid retention and moderate swelling. The first few days can be quite uncomfortable, and post-operative pain can be managed with prescription pain medication.

Typically, patients find their comfort level improves noticeably each day after the first 3 days or so. You will be encouraged to get up and walk around the first 1 to 2 days after surgery, and patients typically can resume light daily activities that do not require lifting, twisting, or bending after about 10 to 14 days. Plan on at least 2 weeks away from a desk job, longer for a physically active job. Workouts can be gradually resumed after 4 to 6 weeks in most cases.

What you need to know about male tummy tuck recovery

While the recovery process takes longer for abdominoplasty than it does for many other body contouring procedures, our male patients overwhelmingly state that their results—not to mention their increased self-confidence and improved outlook—are well worth it. As with any surgery, it is imperative that you follow your instructions for post-operative care and resuming activity after abdominoplasty.

We understand that this can at first seem especially challenging for male patients, who often have careers and family life to consider. Our consultation process includes one-on-one time with Dr. Movassaghi, who will answer your questions and discuss whether or not now is the time to work this life-enhancing procedure into your life.

Will abdominoplasty results last?

Since the muscles are held in place behind sutures and excess skin is removed, when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, abdominoplasty is can improve the shape of the abdomen. While the aging process will continue naturally, any future sagging of the abdominal skin should be minimal—and far less than what you might have experienced without abdominoplasty—so long as you maintain a stable body weight after surgery.

Remember, abdominoplasty is not a weight loss surgery, nor can it substitute for a healthy lifestyle. Significant weight gain is likely to compromise male tummy tuck results, even if you lose the weight afterward.
