ELIXIR MD™ Light Therapy

Advanced light therapy for a faster, more comfortable surgical recovery

Eugene plastic surgeon Dr. Kiya Movassaghi is proud to be among the first in the area to offer ELIXIR MD™, an FDA-cleared light therapy treatment available as part of his pre- and post-operative care. For plastic surgery patients who add it to their surgical plan, ELIXIR MD is designed to support healing with less pain, less swelling, and less downtime.

What is ELIXIR MD™?

ELIXIR MD is a patented, FDA-cleared, medical-grade device developed exclusively for plastic surgeons. It uses photobiomodulation, a process that applies specific wavelengths of light to stimulate activity at the cellular level. Different wavelengths target different tissue layers and different goals, from calming the skin’s surface before surgery to supporting the deeper repair process afterward. Dr. Movassaghi offers ELIXIR MD as an option within the recovery plans he builds for his surgical patients.

How ELIXIR MD Differs from Spa and Gym Light Therapy

ELIXIR MD is not the same device as the red light panels and LED masks found at gyms, spas, and wellness studios. ELIXIR MD is a Class II medical device, cleared by the FDA as a Laser Surgical Instrument for use in general and plastic surgery, the same regulatory category as other surgical devices used in Dr. Movassaghi’s practice. It is available only through licensed medical providers and is built around protocols developed specifically for surgical recovery.

When you receive ELIXIR MD in Dr. Movassaghi’s office, the treatment is calibrated to your specific procedure and delivered under his direct oversight, not administered as a general wellness session.

ELIXIR MD is a new solution for optimal post-surgical recovery.

Which ELIXIR MD Protocol Is Right for You?

Dr. Movassaghi uses ELIXIR MD at different points in your surgical journey, and each protocol is built around a different stage of recovery. For patients who choose to include it, treatment plans typically draw from the Detox™ and Cellular™ protocols, with maintenance treatments available afterward for those who want to keep supporting their results. Since every surgical plan is customized, Dr. Movassaghi will recommend whether ELIXIR MD makes sense for you, and which protocols fit your goals, during your consultation.

Detox™ Pre-Op Protocol

Before surgery, Dr. Movassaghi uses the Detox™ protocol, which applies blue light in the 400-nanometer range to the skin. Blue light at this wavelength activates naturally occurring porphyrins within bacterial cells, generating reactive oxygen species that reduce bacterial load on the skin’s surface. Blue light also regulates sebaceous gland activity, reducing surface oil and preparing the treatment area heading into surgery.

For patients using this protocol, it takes about 20 minutes and works alongside Dr. Movassaghi’s standard surgical preparation protocols.

Cellular™ Post-Op Protocol

After surgery, Dr. Movassaghi uses the Cellular™ protocol, which applies yellow light to the treated area to support the body’s own cellular repair activity during the days and weeks following a procedure. For patients who include it, this protocol is added to the post-operative plan Dr. Movassaghi creates, alongside the other elements of aftercare he provides, including activity guidelines, compression, and follow-up visits.

Maintenance Treatments

For patients who want to continue supporting their results after their primary recovery period, Dr. Movassaghi also offers NeoXcell™, Roxium™, and Thermal™, which use varying combinations of red and yellow light to support ongoing skin quality and collagen production. He will recommend the right maintenance treatment based on your goals during your recovery.
