Chin Implant Eugene

Adding definition to a weak chin can restore facial harmony

A chin implant is intended to improve your profile by giving you a more attractive jawline. A chin implant can provide a better balance between your chin and your other facial features.

You may benefit from a chin augmentation if you have a small or receding chin. A chin that is too small can make your nose and other facial features appear disproportionately large. Chin reshaping is also appropriate for those with a desire to increase the prominence of their chin.

What is chin implant surgery like?

Chin enhancement is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kiya Movassaghi performs surgery at McKenzie Surgery Center or Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon. An incision is made inside the lower lip or under the chin, and an implant is placed. In an alternative method called sliding osteotomy, a portion of the chin bone is moved forward.

Chin implant surgery typically takes less than one hour to perform. Following surgery, your incision is closed with sutures, and your chin is bandaged.

“Dr. Movassaghi, thank you, thank you, thank you for making me feel like a new person. When you said you were a perfectionist, you were right. I feel as if my new look is so beautiful and natural.”

What are the risks of chin implant surgery?

The specific risks and the suitability of a chin enhancement procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications, such as infection, hematoma (internal bleeding), a shift in implant position, and poor scarring are possible but unusual. You can minimize your risks of chin implant surgery by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon.

What is recovery from a chin augmentation like?

You will be able to return home the same day as your chin augmentation.  Initial discomfort can easily be controlled with oral medication. Swelling, tenderness, and possible local numbness should gradually subside within a month or two. You should be able to return to work within about a week and resume strenuous physical activity after 3 to 4 weeks. Your final results will be apparent within 1 to 3 months.

Additional procedures that would enhance the result of chin enhancement are neck lift, nose reshaping (rhinoplasty), and/or laser skin resurfacing.

Chin enlargement is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.
